During this eight-week evening class, we will work on expanding our knowledge of the black and white photograph as a cultural, documentarian, and artistic medium, whilst developing our skills as photographers and printmakers.
Through deep engagement with your own working process and experimentation with equipment, materials, and ideas, you will discover new avenues of creative expression to explore.
We will limit ourselves to the use of black and white, silver gelatine materials to give us focus, but otherwise, your creativity will lead the way. Each week we will discuss the work of a different photographer, investigating their shooting and printing techniques as well as their contextual and cultural position, before moving into either the darkroom or studio to get creative.
This evening class will cover studio, landscape, still life, and portrait photography, darkroom printing and film processing. You will also receive a voucher code that will entitle you to three independent darkroom sessions to book at your convenience.
This course is suitable for those who have some experience with black and white photography and darkroom printing. All photographic paper, chemistry, and sheet film is provided, but you will need to purchase your own 35mm or 120 roll film.
