During this eight week evening course, you will explore the creative possibilities of the darkroom; experimenting with processes, materials, and chemistry to discover the expressive nature of the black and white print.

Over the weeks we'll touch upon a variety of experimental processes to give you an overview of alternative photographic printmaking.

Processes to be explored will include Lith printing, Mordançage, Chromo and Sabattier, amongst others.

Over the weeks, you will produce a range of beautiful alternative process prints, and will have the opportunity to handle original examples by antiquarian photographers.
We will also discuss contemporary photographic practice and how alternative processes can fit within modern methods, and how the combination of the two could expand the possibilities of our medium.

This is a highly experimental course, and you will be strongly encouraged to engage deeply with the materials and processes in order to produce stunningly unique, original artworks.

All materials are provided. Previous darkroom experience is not required.

The course also includes 3 darkroom sessions to work on your projects, which will be booked using your unique course code.
