Join us in the darkroom to learn all about the stunning Mordançage process.

Invented in the 1960s by Jean-Pierre Sudre, Mordançage is a chemical process that holds exciting possibilities for the creative black and white photographer. Through a process of chemical bleaching and redevelopment, it is possible to lift the emulsion from the darkest areas of a print, manipulating these "veils" to create flowing, three-dimensional details which can dramatically alter the look and feel of a composition.

During the day, we will spend time in the darkroom producing a selection of prints from your negatives, which we will then take through the Mordançage process.

After preparing the chemistry, we will look at examples of the process, while discussing the methods used to produce the gorgeous effects indicative of Mordançage; namely the bleaching, redevelopment, and the manipulation of the veils of emulsion lifted from the print.

Mordançage is an utterly unique method, enabling the printer to create breathtaking compositions unlike anything else!

All materials are included, but you will need to bring your own negatives. No previous darkroom experience is required.
