Our Print Auction is Live!
It will run from 6th October until 9th November - closing at 7pm.
Take a look via the link below and share far and wide so we can raise funds for the Negative Thinking Positive Making mission.
20% of all funds raised will go to local charity Caring in Bristol. Their small team is doing big things and We reached out to Casey who works there to speak a little about the projects they have on for 2024/2025. Whilst its not easy to distil in to a few lines, this is a little insight into their work:
“Caring in Bristol is a local charity supporting individuals and communities experiencing homelessness or at risk of homelessness. Through innovative and creative projects, we work to prevent homelessness and assist those experiencing a housing crisis.
In 2024, our Project Z team has helped 121 young people navigate housing systems with personalised, long-term support. In July, Project Z expanded as we launched Z House, Bristol’s first dedicated youth shelter, providing a safe space and support from our Project Z team for young people experiencing homelessness.
Our Early Doors project focuses on early intervention, offering housing advice and support to prevent a housing crisis, while Bristol Goods provides nutritious food and advice through our food clubs, which alleviates financial pressures and stops homelessness in its tracks.
Looking ahead for the rest of 2024, our winter project, Caring at Christmas, offers vital services including food, clothing, healthcare, professional advice and entertainment to those experiencing homelessness, making it the largest initiative of its kind in the South West.”
We would be so grateful for you to share this print auction far and wide. The art that is up for auction is a curation of some of our favourite photographic artists and some of these prtins are not available for sale, and we have been extremely lucky that the printers and artists have gifted them to our cause. Some more prints coming soon too! We feel incredibly lucky.
We want to make the darkroom an accessible space, financially and culturally. We are adamant that Negative Thinking be an organisation that welcomes everyone who is curious to step through the door. You can be a beginner and we will give you a footing to jump from. You can be an acomplished photographer or artist and we aim to crack open your creative practice. We want people to feel brave enough to emulate our business model, to put energy into something bigger than yourself, and sustain yourself from the friendships you make, the opportunities that flow, and the growth that comes from dedicating yourself to a creative practice.
The creative act is inherent in all of us. Humanity is a story-telling, creative and destructive, complicated species. All of us sit at the front of the burning shooting star that is our existence. For a brief moment in time, we are the ones who embody the spark of being alive. It will pass, as it has for our beloved dead, and others will hold that brief light. May we feel safe enough to express ourselves. May we aim for something beyond our current possibilities. May we forge a path as others have done before us. May we share knowledge. May we defy the odds of a corrupt power by being immovable in our authenticity.
