Print Auction view, late night Thursday and more!

What’s coming up at NTHQ?

A full weekend of workshops here at the studio. And we are gearing up for all we have on in the coming weeks!

Print View for the Print Auction!

As we get closer to the end of the print auction on 9th November, we are inviting one and all to come to view the prints between 3rd November and 9th November, with a gathering on Thursday 7th November 6-8pm. We would love for you to join us and ask any questions you might have. These prints are so wonderful and so varied, we can’t just showcase them via a screen - we hope to see you here!

Signing up to the Print Auction

A few folks have been wondering how 32Auctions.com works. It works like eBay. You can sign up with your email address and place a bid, either an exact bid or a proxy bid - the maximum bid you are willing to pay for the item and 32auctions.com will bid for you as others place bids. There is no money to pay while you bid, only if you are the winner on the 9th November. We have extended bidding, which means that if someone places a bid on an item in the last 3 minutes, the auction will extend for 3 minutes after the official end time of 7pm to allow folks a chance to counter. We hope this makes it as fair as possible. Have a look here!

Open Studio at the Laundrette for Bristol Photo Festival!

On 2nd November we will be up and running with the Large Format Camera for an Open Studio at The Laundrette Gallery. Taking portraits of passers by who have time to sit for a portrait, Tim will be taking portraits emulating the style of Herbert Shergold, using the same lens Shergold used, and putting his unique Tim Pearse stamp on the imagery. Please come on over to Stokes Croft to see us! An exhibition will follow on 20th November to showcase all the portraits made.

The Black & White Photograph Evening Course

We have made the decision to postpone our 8 week photography deep dive until January 2025. We are lucky that this is a rarity but it still was not an easy decision. We believe that the cohort on these courses are what make them so special - with people learning both from Tim and from one another in shared and differing experiences of photography and the world. We apologise deeply to those already signed up to the course but we hope that by postponing we can get a full team of photographers involved. We now know that this course is going to be going ahead now starting 14th January and look forward to welcoming you on to the course to dive into photography and darkroom printing and the circularity of the 2. Designed for those who are capable photographers but want to push beyond their current practice. More details here

Tim Pearse and Negative Thinking Show open at Pound Arts Centre

We had such a wonderful time on Thursday celebrating the work that has come out of our darkroom over the last year. Thank you so much to everyone at Pound Arts Centre for getting behind us and creating such a wonderful exhibition. It is on for a month so please get over and see it followed by a lunch in their cafe or one of the lovely places in Corsham! And why not fit in a visit to Lacock Abbey while you’re there too :)

Crit Club

Our next Crit Club will be Thursday 14th November 6-9pm. We would love for you to come. No particular theme, but come with a print to show, a book to share, a camera to talk about, or a bottle of wine to glug. All welcome, no need to present anything. Do let us know if you plan on attending so we know numbers.

Late night Thursdays!

Did you know we are open on Thursday evenings with darkroom sessions 6-9pm. Yes, that’s including this Halloween! Come join us!

Things coming up!

  • One place left on the Wet Plate Collodion Workshop on 3rd November!

  • 9th November we have Darkroom Magic. For anyone wanting an intro to the Experimental Darkroom course this one’s for you. Expect experimentation, blending a few alt processes to create some magical, unique prints by the end of the day

  • We have a few places left on Black & White Printing on 10th November. For anyone who wants to push to the next level of printing mastery, Tim will take you through print maps, dodging, burning, and truly looking at your photographs to get the best out of your negatives.
